Bar Girls...is it all about money?

My own view is that the answer is emphatically yes it is about money....but sometimes there are other factors too.

We see the world through our own eyes, forming impressions about people based upon a perspective which is uniquely our own. Here in Thailand we are a set of men that love Thailand and Pattaya in particular - we are looking for fun, lust and sometimes love and what about the ladies what are they looking for? - money obviously.

Many of the Thai Bar Girls you will meet are single mums from Issan with no social security to fall back on - Mum "take care baby" back in the village, they need to send Mum back cash on a regular basis (5000 baht +). So are these girls solely money making machines who want to squeeze every last baht out of the unsuspecting falang punter? In my view its a little more complex than that.

Some girls are total party animals who love getting drunk with their friends and want to be out every night - going back to the village would be their idea of hell...their lifestyle needs a bit of funding and a cold hearted yet business-like approach to sponsorship will be the order of the day. These girls may very well tell you what you want to hear and will play a sucker for all he is worth. They may very well also have a Thai boyfriend lurking in the background encouraging the money making machine on and on.

On the other hand, many Thai Bar Girls are looking for somebody to "take care". By this I believe that many of the girls are genuinely looking to meet a guy for a permanent relationship - they want to turn their back on bar work and settle down with falang. Why?...money, security and "take care" obviously, but also they want to have a genuine loving relationship with a falang because "no like thai man - he box ( hit me ), not work, butterfly ( many women ), not take care".

The girls are human beings with real feelings. In my view some of them are genuine when they tell you the things they do. Its not always Bulls--t when they tell you that they love you...indeed it is often they who end up with their hearts broken when falang go back home.

I would describe the purpose of the non party type girls working as twofold - short term need for cash (to live and send home) and a longer mission to find  love and be loved (that obviously also includes "take care").

Personally I have the utmost respect for (most) of the Bar Girls I have met.
